Spicy Hibiscus Margarita: A Tangy Twist on a Summer Classic
When my sister asked me to create a signature drink for her engagement party, I knew a Spicy Hibiscus Margarita would be the perfect choice. After testing countless recipes, I can confidently say that this is the best spicy hibiscus margarita recipe ever. It’s a delightful blend of tangy lime, Cointreau, spicy jalapeno-infused tequila, and a touch of sweet floral Hibiscus Splash simple syrup—a combination that guarantees a burst of flavors in every sip.
Recipe: Spicy Hibiscus Margarita
Ingredients:
(Yield: 2 drinks)
- 4 oz Jalapeno Infused Tequila
- 2 oz Lime Juice
- 2 oz Cointreau
- 2 oz Hibiscus Splash Simple Syrup (recipe below)
Directions:
1. Infuse the Tequila:
- Cut 3-4 fresh jalapenos into ¼ inch slices and add to a full 1.75L bottle of tequila (adjust quantity for smaller bottles).
- Let it infuse overnight. Strain the tequila into another container, discarding the jalapenos. Adjust spiciness by adding more uninfused tequila if needed.
Note: If short on time, you can purchase jalapeno-infused tequila from most liquor stores. Don't like spice? Swap the inflused-tequila for a traditional silver tequila.
2. Make the Hibiscus Splash Simple Syrup (yields 8 oz):
- In a medium saucepan, combine 1 cup sugar and 1 cup water over medium heat. Stir until sugar dissolves.
- Add 1 cup of Hibiscus Splash dried herbs to the saucepan. Bring to a quick boil, then reduce heat to low and let it simmer for 10 minutes.
- Remove from heat and allow to cool. Strain the liquid through a fine mesh colander into a sealable bottle, pressing the herbs gently to extract maximum flavor.
Tip: Leftover hibiscus simple syrup can be refrigerated for up to a month.
3. Assemble your Margarita(s):
For 1-2 drinks:
- Fill a cocktail shaker with ice.
- Add jalapeno-infused tequila, lime juice, Cointreau, and hibiscus simple syrup.
- Shake vigorously for about 30 seconds.
- Strain into a glass filled with ice. Enjoy immediately!
For large batches:
- Multiply the recipe as needed and combine all ingredients in a large pitcher.
- Stir well to ensure everything is thoroughly mixed.
- Serve over ice in glasses rimmed with salt (optional) for added zest.
This Spicy Hibiscus Margarita was a not only a crowd-pleaser this summer but also versatile enough for any celebration or casual get-together. Whether you’re mixing up a few for intimate gatherings or preparing a pitcher for a larger party, its vibrant flavors and easy preparation make it a go-to choice.
